In the present work illustrations are placed along the fragments of text, which is rather complimentary to the charming silhouettes in the German manner used by Bem to depict characters.Bem (1843-1914) – Russian artist and illustrator, developed her skills at the Drawing school of artists encouragement in Saint Petersburg, where she became a master of silhouette - one of the rarest techniques, especially among children's illustrators. For her work Bem received multiple awards at Russian, as well as international exhibitions.
Folio (31 x 24 cm); complete unbound suite of 20 photolithographs of silhouettes. Original loose decorated grey wrappers; some soiling, spine partially split, partial loss with upper right hand corner, chipped, stamp 'Printed in Russia' to upper cover.
