Journal of a voyage to Australia
William Scoresby junior, the great Arctic explorer, was actively engaged on scientific research into magnetism and published several papers on the subject. To further his knowledge he made a voyage to Australia on board the iron-hulled Royal Charter in 1856 to study terrestrial magnetism. His account of the voyage and his researches was published posthumously, and was seen through the press by Archibald Smith.
