Rare. The British East India Company became aware of the prosperity of Oudh as it bordered Bengal which was already controlled by the EIC. In 1801, with the increased demands on the EIC from the British government for more revenue in light of the Napoleonic Wars, the ruler of Oudh, Saadat Ali Khan II was forced to cede significant territory under pressure from Lord Wellesley (elder brother of Wellington) in lieu of tribute, thereby halving the size of his kingdom. This followed on from the 1798 Treaty which increased the subsidy paid to the British to 70 lakh rupees per annum. The author of this pamphlet attacks the treaty and calls for reparations to be made.
