Australia

Charles Kerry (c. 1884-1917) opened a studio in Sydney in 1884. From approximately 1893 this was known as Kerry and Co., and closed in 1917.

The Sydney post office was built in stages from 1866-1891 by architect James Johnstone Barnet (1827-1904). Intended to stand as a symbol of the city, the construction brought great conflict and controversy as Parliament raised objections to many of the carved panels, calling them 'tedious' and 'offensive.' The Post Master General disagreed, and the carvings remain today.

Albumen print. Fair tonal range and in fair condition, pasted on original card, studio's blind stamp, photographer's title, number, and credit in negative, title in manuscript.
