Very rare first edition of this successful work, boasting a large lithographed panorama of Constantinople and the Bosphorus over a meter long and a folded map of the theatre of war. An uncommon example of a French provincial binding.

The book comprises a brief history of the Russian and Ottoman Empires, an overview of the origins of conflict between the countries and a chronological description of the first part of the war until the landing of the Allied forces on the Crimean Peninsula. Ladimir's book became so popular that by the end of 1855 it had already undergone fifteenth editions, but this first edition is of great rarity: we could not trace any copy selling at auction, OCLC and CCFr gives only one copy in public institutions (BnF; also Chalons, but information is lacking on the copy).

First edition, 8vo (23 x 15.7 cm), title, 213, [2] pp., with a large folding panorama (1.2 m long) and a map; illegible stamp to title, stamp 'CН' to p.1, marginal tear to map. Contemporary black quarter calf over marbled boards, by Lame, in Chinon, France, marbled endpapers; rubbed.
