A rare first edition. This title was written by John Murray III himself with a contribution from from his great friend and fellow traveller William Brockedon, author of "High Passes over the Alps". There were nineteen editions of this title between 1838-1904 but only the early editions between 1838-46 were actually written by Murray. This copy unfortunately lacks 2 pages of text at the beginning of the book (pages 1-2).

First edition. lix, 3-367pp (lacks 2pp of text), publisher's advert pasted down on endpapers dated April 1939, folding map at rear, ink signature inside, publisher's green cloth gilt, gilt stamp on upper board, spine edges worn; else a good copy.
