Hooper (1837 - 1912) was a British military officer in India and served in the 7th Madras Light Cavalry from 1858. As a talented amateur photographer, he was seconded to take ethnographical photographs in the Central Provinces, which resulted in publication of The People of India (1868-75). In the beginning of 1870s he produced commercially successful series of narrative views illustrating such themes as hunting.
