A handsome three-volume lifetime edition of Henry Hallam's (1777-1859) classic history of the Middle Ages, surveying the political developments of the principal countries of Western Europe, and the constitutions of Anglo-Saxon and Norman England.

View of the State of Europe during the Middle Ages was first published in 1818, shortly after Hallam had come into his inheritance, allowing him to devote the remainder of his life to study. This the eleventh edition was the last to be published during the author's lifetime.
