Kazi Atazhukin (1841-1899) was an important proponent of the Adyghe (Circassian) language, compiling folk stories, legends and anecdotes. Together with Umar Berseyev and Petr Uslar (a pioneer in the study of Caucasian languages) he compiled this book on this Karbadian ABC which was the first of its kind. Atazhukin is also considered the founder of Adyghe journalism as he published articles in Kabardian in the Vladkikavkaz based newspaper, Terskie Vedomosti in 1870.

First edition; 8vo (224.4 x 18 cm); pages uncut and untrimmed, minor spotting; original printed wrappers, small water stain to upper and lower cover, spine repaired, a very good copy.
