The Collected Works.

The only collected works of Britain's most famous 20th century statesman, comprising all fifty of Churchill's published titles, complete with the four volumes of Collected Essays published later in 1976. See appendix to Cohen, Bibliography of the Writings of Sir Winston Churchill, volume I (pp. 1098-1104): 'the print run never exceeded 2,000 copies and only 1,750 sets were ever published since the publisher was declared bankrupt prior to completing the project. Moreover, it appears that these were only bound as ordered.'

Centenary Limited Edition; thirty-eight volumes, 8vo (23.5 x 15 cm); illustrated with photographic plates and maps; publisher's full vellum, gilt borders with gilt armorial device to upper boards, spines lettered in gilt, all edges gilt, each volume preserved in the original green slip-case with gilt armorial device (one replaced but without armorial device), slight discolouration to a some spines and covers (as usual due to nature of vellum), else a very good set, with a collection of various promotional letters and leaflets from the publisher.
