Group of Four Views: Tempio Canova and the new road.

Antonio Canova (1757-1822), the great neo-classical sculptor was born in Possagno. He chose to erect what became known as the Tempio Canoviano on a hill near the city, a structure he designed, financed, and partly-built himself. The church is renowned as an epitome of a particularly restrained form of neo-classicism. Work began in 1819, and continued after Canova's death until 1830. Modifications to Canova's original plans were made by Pietro Bosio, Giovanni Zardi, Gainnantonio Selva, Luigi Rossini, and the architect Giuseppe Segusini. Canova is buried there.

Group of four mixed method engravings, with superb contemporary hand-colouring, 33 x 42cm.
