1 / 3

The Ruba'iyat of Omar Khayyam.

decorative gilt strapwork binding

A beautiful example of The Rubàiyàt of Omar Khayyàm, bound in crushed brown morocco and decorated in gilt with an all-over strapwork design heightened with red and green morocco onlay.

The limited edition on handmade paper follows Fitzgerald's translation, first published in 1859. The poem presents an interesting challenge to any reader trying to sort through its profound symbolism and not-so-obvious theme, and gained recognition over the course of the nineteenth century as a growing 'cult of the Rubáiyát' found expression in 'the Omar Khayyám Clubs of England and America' (Yohannan, p. 202).

Number 7 of 60 limited edition copies on handmade; 8vo (23.5 x 15.5 cm); title in red and black, limitation page numbered in pen, slightly toned at margins; highly decorative crushed brown morocco with gilt strapwork design, upper cover further tooled in gilt with an all-over design of floral vines onlaid in red and green morocco, gilt spine in 6 compartments, upper-cover gilt, others uncut, a little rubbed, spine with very faint fading, very good or better; x, [2], 283, [1]pp.
