This presentation copy is not numbered but states on the colophon 'Exemplaire spécialement imprimé pour William McCarty'.Inscribed by the prominent art dealer and collector Douglas Cooper to his adopted son William McCarty, 'For Billy / a Christmas surprise / at Castille / with all love [Cooper's signature]' dated 26 December 1976. McCarty had been adopted by Cooper four years earlier in 1972. The arrangement, where the adoptee is not an orphan, was not uncommon in the world of the arts.
