Deaths For The Ladies

signed by the author

This beautifully printed edition of Norman Mailer's lesser-known poetry is in great condition. Mailer uses the collection to play with visual poetry, space, structure, humour, and language, including two gestural drawings with hand-written stanzas. Without page numbers, a table of contents, and, at times, titles, the poems invite disorientation and revelation. Mailer only published two standalone poetry collections, and this was his first.

Signed by the Norman Mailer with an energetic abstract line drawing addressed to Francis Wyndham (1924-2017), a British writer and literary editor for the publisher André Deutsch, and for publications like The Times Literary Supplement and The Sunday Times. Deutsch published several of Mailer's works, including his first novel, The Naked and the Dead, and the first British edition of this poetry collection, edited by Wyndham.

First edition, signed by the author on half title page; 8vo (21 x 14 cm); 2 in-text pen illustrations; paperback, perfect bound with original black wrappers lettered in white (lightly rubbed on extremities and spine); [235]pp.
