They were dispatched by the Spanish authorities who had become alarmed by the news of the discoveries made by Le Maire and Schouten on their voyage of 1616 in search of the Southern Continent. The Nodals returned with accurate observations of the tides in the Straits of Magellan and precise sailing instructions for the area.
Second edition of Nodal. 2 works in one vol., small 4to, [xx], 162, [ii]; [ii], 43 pp., engraved folding map. Contemporary limp vellum, spine ink lettered, a fine example.
