The recipient John La Rose was a political and cultural activist, poet, writer, publisher, founder of New Beacon Books in 1966, the first specialist Caribbean publishing company in Britain, and subsequently Chairman of the George Padmore Institute.

First US edition, first impression, inscribed by the author; 8vo; else unmarked internally; publisher's purple cloth, gilt lettering to spine, with the unclipped pictorial dust-jacket, slightly toned, a few nicks and tears, else very good.
