Lehnert (1878-1948) and Landrock (1880-1957) opened their studio in Algeria in 1907, where Lehnert worked as a photographer, while Landrock dealt with the management aspects of the studio. Rudolf Lehnert became known throughout the world for his photographs of Algeria, Tunisia and Saharan landscapes, as well as for his noteworthy portraits revealing the oriental sensuality.
