Containing valuable information about the poets and visual artists of the movement, the work was compiled to accompany the 1938 Exposition International du Surréalisme, organised by Breton and Éluard, with the assistance of Duchamp, Ernst, Dali and others.

First edition; large 8vo; profusely illustrated in black and white, unmarked internally, without the usual light foxing; original green pictorial wrappers by Yves Tanguy printed in red and black, edges somewhat tanned (as often), light edge-wear, with original glassine wrapper, a few small nicks and tears to spine and edges, else very good.
