Signed copy of A Dialogue With Solitude. Dave Heath's reputation largely rests on this book, in which he reflects and responds to the alienation that was particularly prevalent in post-war North American society. It was published in 1965, but most of the photographs were taken earlier, including several that he made in Korea in 1953 while serving in the US Army. Heath briefly studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was strongly influenced by W. Eugene Smith, dedicating A Dialogue with Solitude to him.

First edition, signed in black ink on title-page, signature faded; 4to (280 x 210 mm, 11 8ÂĽ in); black-and-white photographs printed in offset, foreword by Huw Edwards, several literary quotes, preface and design by Dave Heath; tan cloth-covered boards, titles stamped to spine in brown, photo-illustrated dust-jacket, white, text in black, marking and light rubbing, light wear to extremities, very small chip to lower panel top edge, short teat and crease to upper panel bottom edge, strengthened on verso, near-fine in a very good dust-jacket; [100]pp.
