A rare series of colourful designs: 280 examples were printed on Japon paper from a total edition of 300 copies. Charmaison's delightful illustrations of formal gardens were vividly coloured by Jean Saudé, who is regarded as the leading exponent of pochoir, a printing technique in which each colour is applied through a separate stencil. His prints have a vibrancy of colour that has rarely been equalled.
The present set includes the following plates: La Jarre (The Amphora), L'Allée Rouge (The Red Path), Les Flo, Le Berceau (The Cradle), La Salle Verte (The Green Room), L'Atrium ( The Atrium), La Charmille (The Arbor) and La Treille Rose (The Rose Trellis).
