'The original cloth binding of this first issue is quite friable, with the result that few copies survive in truly fine condition. Apparently, the fault was soon noticed, as a second issue was produced that year bound in a more durable red cloth' (Taurus).

First edition, first issue. 8vo, xvi, 348, [4] (ads) pp., large tear to map, mild browning and foxing to end-papers, original green cloth gilt, rubbed and bumped at extremities, a few minor scratches to front board, overall a very good copy.
