A condensed government booklet describing the tribes and geography above Baghdad. Using a mixture of surveys and archival references it provides an overview of the tribes of the area, resources, routes, and communications. This is part of the flurry of hastily prepared aides for British officers in preparation for the offensive into Mesopotamia in 1917.
'The area dealt with in this handbook is bounded on the north by the caravan route between Dair-az-Zaur and Mosul, on the east by that between Mosul and Baghdad; on the south by that between Baghdad and Fallujah; and on the west by the river Euphrates. The tract is thus defined includes portions of the Baghdad and Mosul Wilayats, and of the Sanjaq of Zaur (p.[iii])'.
