An excellent example of Constructivist book design. Notably rare, Woldcat locates three copies held in instutions: Columbia University, NYPL and the University of Chicago. Kondratov studied from 1910 to 1915 at the Moscow Stroganov Institute and at Vkhutemas between 1919 and 1923. He designed the decorations for Red Square's revolutionary holidays in 1919 and 1928 and worked mainly in theatre design until the 1930s when he began illustrating books for the state publisher. The striking scenes of children buying goods in the 'Uinvermag' are the perfect example of why Soviet children's books are held in such high regard.
