One of the great Eliot scarcities. This copy is with the text in the corrected state, and the wrappers and title label in the published (as opposed to trial) version. The wrappers were printed on wallpaper amd decorated with thick poster paint. This created a paper with all the resilience of a bird's egg shell. As a consequence copies are usually in need of restoration. The present example is no exception. A marvellous job was done and now the book can be handled without fear and looks superb.

First edition., sole printing. One of about 170 copes handprinted by the Woolfs. Single quire sewn into hand painted, orange, green, black and yellow wrappers, white paper title label to front wrappers printed in black. Toning to the test as always, wrappers extensively restored as usual.
